Sweetheart bateau neckline sheath dress pattern

Ahhh, I am in love with this beautiful sweetheart bateau neckline as soon as I stumbled upon this design by Goat Fashion on Pinterest. I decided to make myself one, and this is the pattern that came along with the pattern for myself. Hope you will enjoy it!

This dress has a sweetheart bateau neckline, below the knee length and 3/4 sleeves. I must say it is a formal meeting ready dress. Just put this dress on, choose a matching hat, and you can even go to the Royal Ascot! Of course, it is also quite moderate, so you can be confident to wear it to work or a professional meeting.

image

The dress pattern I share in this post has a straight skirt. If you prefer a pencil design, narrow down the side seams, starting from the fullest part of the hip (marked with notches) down to hemline. It is a really quick modification, mark a point at the hemline at the desired width of skirt hemline and draw a straight line from the hip notch to the marked point. Then redraw the seam allowance and cut the pieces. It is similar to the demonstration below – the red lines are new side lines, the blue lines are new seam allowance lines.

image

And if you find the length of the dress unflattering, just feel free to lengthen or shorten it to your taste. It’s always worthy to try.

The pattern is created in pdf format using A4 paper. I can also create the pattern in other paper sizes (A0 to A4, Letter, Tabloid), so please inform me if you need them. Print the patterns on A4 paper at actual size/no scaling/100%. Not sure how to print and cut the patterns? Check the guide here.

Do you want to add side seam pockets to the pattern for additional convenience? Just go ahead because it is too easy, just follow the quick instruction here.

Again, happy sewing! I look forward to seeing your masterpiece!

Round neck A line dress pattern

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

Do you love looking sweet and feminine? Make this midi A line dress with light weight fabric and you will be happy with it! It brings about the vintage feeling, doesn’t it?

1_2_260_231_230_258_252_472_473_315_314_257_261_262_190_209_270_203_222_269_286_285_technical_drawing

This dress features a modest round neckline, midi length and long sleeve. But don’t worry, you won’t look frumpy at all. Choose a soft and flowy fabric, and it will flatter your figure. You know, nothing can make you look better than an A line dress – a style that hides all kinds of flaws, from big belly to ugly legs. I am a curvy petite myself, and I just love A line dresses!  I always thought that with my height I could never look good in a flared midi dress, but this nice dress changed it. I made it with moderate flare and it did not undermine my height at all! Of course, I wear this dress with high heels – not flats. If you are tall, congrats, you can wear this dress with either flats or heels and still look great.

And if you find the length of the dress unflattering, just feel free to lengthen or shorten it to your taste. It’s always worthy to try.

This baby is suitable for cooler days at the beginning of fall, and of course, for an evening date. I even made one to wear in the super hot mid summer of the Southern Vietnam – it helps me cover my skin under the scorching sun!

Mandarin collar sheath dress

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

Mandarin collar is a staple to any wardrobe with Asian influence. It is a stand up collar that gives the garment a nice new look. I have been interested in Mandarin collar for a long time, and I think this type of collar is really stylish. A simple dress can be upgraded to a formal event ready piece with this kind of collar. Modest, and still drawing attention to the graceful neck of the wearer.

I created a pattern for a sheath dress with this beautiful collar. I move the darts to the center neck to draw attention to the neckline. This dress can be made with solid color, or with prints – especially Asian style prints.

image

This dress is below the knee long, but you can lengthen or shorten it to your liking. You can even skip the kick pleat at the center back seam and make a slit at the side of the dress to make it look like a cheongsam – a traditional dress of Chinese women. For example, you can have a look at this beautiful piece here:

image

The dress pattern I share in this post has a straight skirt. If you prefer a pencil design, narrow down the side seams, starting from the fullest part of the hip (marked with notches) down to hemline. Round neck long sleeve pleated dress

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

This pattern is inspired by a dress by Carolina Herrera ( you know, I am obsessed with the design by Carolina Herrera!). It features a 5/8 length sleeve, round neck and knee long box pleated skirt. Although I am not very much into the striped design (because I am short and curvy, horizontal stripes make me shorter and fatter), I think this dress would be nice in almost any color and print. This design is also very versatile. You can either make it with soft and flowy fabric or with stiff and heavy fabric – it will create different feelings to the wearer and the watchers! Just try on and you will love it just like I do!

image

If you want to make the dress with striped fabric, remember to align the stripes at the seams. You don’t want to ruin the dress by not be careful enough to match the stripe together – it will make the dress look cheap. It is also one of the reasons I do not buy ready made clothes at the stores, the stripes are almost always skewed.

Notched Peter Pan collar center pleat dress pattern

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

I am sharing this baby when I come over a girl on the street in a dress similar to this. She looked so young and lovely in this dress that I immediately decided to make one for myself. This dress features a notched Peter Pan collar, center front pleat and short sleeves and is yet another simple one to sew.

I really like the embellished collar, it adds a nice accent to the simple dress to make it more interesting and eye-catching. If I have time (I guess it will be in a few years) I will try making one for myself. For now, I should be happy with using a printed fabric to make the collar.

Side slit long tunic top pattern

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)
I am sharing this pattern because I was so in love with the jersey tunic in this photo! It is a knee long tunic with side slits. And it was mixed so well with skinny jeans! I also love the color combination of white jersey top and blue jeans. Just put on a pair of shades, flat sandals, and you are ready for a summer music festival!
image
What’s more, if you are not into jersey because you are worry about sewing with stretchy fabric, choose any kind of fabric to make this baby. It will look great if made with jersey (and very comfortable too), but will also be wonderful if made with chiffon or taffeta. Made with flowy fabric, it is soft and feminine. Made with stiff fabrics, it will become a statement! Maybe you are not familiar with Vietnamese Ao Dai, but try it on, you will have a pleasant surprise!

Easy shift dress pattern

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

The pattern today is inspired by a dress I found on Pinterest. If I remember exactly, it is a piece by Talbots – and the reason I love it is because of the neckline, it is lovely and unusual, and still easy to sew. The neckline creates an accent to the classic shift dress and makes it more interesting. Also I love the removable sash belt which can be made with leftover fabric when you sew the dress. Just a few hours and you will have a nice day dress!

image

If you wonder how to make the sash belt: Cut a long strip of fabric, it must be long enough to cover your waist and make a nice bow. I recommend you cut the strip with the length about your waist measurement plus 70 centimeters/27.5 inches, the width of about 15 centimeters/6 inches. You can cut it either along the grainline, or on the bias (however you think would take up the least fabric). Fold and stitch it to make a tube. Turn the tube over and stitch the opening. Press it and you have a sash belt ready to go!

Sheath dress with waist inset

(Scroll down to the end of the post for download links)

I am not going to talk much about this dress. I found the picture on the Internet and thought that it is really cool – with the bold contrast waistband inset. A great combination of black and red, and the result? A powerful woman who controls everything in her hands!

image

Of course many of us will not be brave enough to put on such bright red colors, so we can go with other options: Do you think of black and white prints and black waist inset? Or one brighter and one darker shade of a color (for example: green and dark green). There are countless options which depends on your creativity, so just try and be surprised with your own imagination.

The pattern is created in pdf format using A4 paper. I can also create the pattern in other paper sizes (A0 to A4, Letter, Tabloid), so please inform me if you need them.

V neck sheath dress with contrast waistband

(Scroll down for download links)

This dress is inspired by the Victoria Beckham sheath dress. It features a below a deep V neckline, knee length and contrast waistband. This dress is amazingly classic and versatile, and I can imagine wearing it to many kinds of events, from professional setting to an extra-curricular event where all the guests need to wear something classic and dressy. It is an office-ready baby that can save you a lot of time searching in your wardrobe for an outfit. Just wear it with a pair of classic black or nude high heels, and you are ready to go!

image

This color combination will create an illusion of a smaller waist than actual. If you worry white color can expose the flaws in your figure, a dark color or a good print can help you out. To my personal taste, I love the combination of black and white, red and black, navy and yellow, green and black, etc. There are countless color combinations that you can choose to make this beauty.

The dress pattern I share in this post has a straight skirt. If you prefer a pencil design, narrow down the side seams, starting from the fullest part of the hip (marked with notches) down to hemline.
