Free sewing pattern: 6 paneled full circle skirt pattern

Today I share with you a very popular item - the full circle skirt pattern!

Who would not love a super-feminine and graceful voluminous full circle skirt? Made with a flowy drapery fabric like chiffon and voile and you will look so sweet with every step. Or made with a stiffer fabric like brocade and it will flatter your shape. And also there are thousands of prints and textures for you to choose. Floral prints for a vintage look, or bold color block prints for modern feeling, it's all up to you, and with only one to two hours of working with the project! Sound interesting, huh?

For those who do not understand much about the drape of fabrics, it is the secret to making a perfect clothing item. Whether you want your garment to hug your curves or want it to cover them, choosing the right drape will help you out. A fabric can have fluid drape, moderate drape or full bodied drape. Fluid drape implies that the fabric moves like liquid, it is silky soft and hugs every curve well. An example of fluid drape is silk chameuse.

Moderate drape is most commonly seen as it is the most versatile drape, which could be used for a variety of garments, from dresses, skirts to blouses. You can see a lot of fabrics have moderate drape, like cotton jersey knits made of cotton or polyester.

Full bodied drape or heavy drape means the fabric holds itself from your body - and it is seen in a lot of structured designs. Scuba knit and pique knit are examples of full bodied drape.

Back to the topic, the circle skirt here can be made using any kind of drape, just try and see!

The pattern I share here is not the two piece full skirt pattern that you find every where on the Internet. It is indeed easier to sew, but the result would not be as professional-looking like the one we have here, because the grain of the fabric might mess up with the form of the dress. Using the panels, you can also save fabrics - just turn the pattern around and you will find yourself not wasting as much of the fabric as the two piece one.

The pattern is made using layered PDF, please check for your size before printing so you won’t waste your paper. If you still do not know how to print a layered PDF, please check for the instruction here.
You can print this using your home printer and A4/Letter paper. I calculated the printing area so that you will be able to use either type of paper to print the pattern out perfectly. Always print the first page first and check with the test square if you are printing at the right scale before you print out the whole pattern.

Playing the song “Red” by MAGIC! (I love this song!)

I said hey you with the red dress on
I gotta find a way to take it off
I got a lot of love and it's growing strong
When I see you with your red dress on

Red dress! I love red dresses! And I totally agree with the saying: “When in doubt, wear red” by Bill Blass. I am so in love with the bright and sexy color which makes all kind of styles so stylish. According to what I read about color theory, red color means energy, passion, love and power – an emotionally intense color. Red attire has distinct effect on both the wearers and people who see them. Red color makes the wearer more confident and happy, so choose a red piece when you feel down, and you will see your mood improved!

The pattern I am sharing today is inspired by a red dress I accidentally came upon when surfing Pinterest. The plus size model in this red midi dress looks totally stunning! A deep V neckline and a flirty full circle skirt make the dress a totally head-turner, even with the simplest or no acessories. And even better, this dress can magically flatter most types of body shape and turn them into almost hourglass shape!

I immediately decided to make myself a similar dress like this one! But I am not so confident to choose the bright red color, so I chose a darker shade – burgundy.

Of course, if red color is not your taste, you can choose a different color, like dark red, deep blue or dark green, etc. Just the shape of the dress is enough to make you stand out in the party.

The pattern is created in pdf format using A4 paper. I can also create the pattern in other paper sizes (A0 to A4, Letter, Tabloid), so please inform me if you need them.

Not sure how to print and cut the patterns? Check the guide here.

Again, happy sewing! I look forward to seeing your masterpiece!

Tea length circle skirt dress pattern

I was really impressed by this design in the Marchesa Notte Spring 2016 collection. This dress is made of luxurious lace, featuring a voluminous tea length circle skirt, a fitted bodice and 3/4 sleeves - sweet and graceful for those who don't want to show off too much skin. It can make you the center of attention in a formal event.

Of course, the dress can be simplified by using less luxurious-looking materials if you don't want to stand out too much, or just don't have the resources to make one exactly the same as the original design - I know this kind of lace must cost you a lot! I think even when you simplify the dress, it will still be able to turn heads.

The pattern is designed based on the idea of the dress. If you want to show off the volume of the skirt, you will need the help of a petticoat. But even when you don't have one, the dress will still be impressive (and to my opinion, more suitable for real life!)

Again, the pattern comes with sizes - regular and petite sizes You can check for your size in the size chart here: The Little Sewist Size Chart

The links for free download of the Marchesa Notte inspired tea length circle skirt dress are shown at the end of the post. Again, I made the pattern in A4 paper, just print it out at 100%/non scaling/actual size as usual. The rest will be cut and tape, and cut (again). It will take a lot of patience!

Hope you will enjoy making it and create a wonderful piece for yourself! Please share with me your project. I would love to see how yours turn out to be.
