Free sewing pattern: Yvonne Empire Waist Dress

This dress pattern is made after I received a request from a reader on Tiana’s Closet. She asked me (a few times) for an empire waist dress, with V neckline and short sleeves. After a long time of procrastination, I finally finished designing this Yvonne empire waist dress.
At first I was quite reluctant to make an empire waist dress. To me, this style is often made for pregnant women – higher waistline and plenty room at the skirt to accumulate the baby bum. But when I tried with many styles, I realized that this style can also be elegant and flattering if the skirt is cut the right way.
The Yvonne dress has all bust darts turned into gathering at the empire waist line, and the skirt is fairly fitted at the waist and flared down the hemline. This helps to draw attention to the bust and covers the (possibly) not very slim waist of the wearer.
Let’s have a look at the 3D simulation of the Yvonne dress. I was quite happy with it, so I played around with the prints and color. You can explore your own way of choosing a suitable color for this dress.

How do you think about this dress? If you are interested, download and print the pattern and start the project.
The pattern is made using layered PDF, please check for your desired size before printing so you won’t waste your paper. If you still do not know how to print a layered PDF, please check for the instruction here.
You can print this using your home printer and A4/Letter paper. I calculated the printing area so that you will be able to use either type of paper to print the pattern out perfectly. Always print the first page first and check with the test square if you are printing at the right scale before you print out the whole pattern.
Some PC may print smaller than actual size even when you choose 100% scale – I don’t know why this problem exist, but my HP laptop cannot print true to size. I have to scale up to 103% to get the right size. You may need to check with your PC to see if it prints true to size, if not, scale up a bit.

Free sewing pattern: Emma dress

The Emma dress is a great choice for those who want to finish a quick project. With just a few details, this dress can be finished within hours and you can get a nice feminine dress for a day out.
The Emma dress features a loose fit, round neckline at the front with V neckline at the back, a curved sleeve hem and a fluted hemline. This design is great for those who want to cover up the flaws in their body shape, especially for those who have big tummy.
Let me show you how it looks in 3D simulation. The simulation is done with 95% accuracy, so you will have a very nice view of you it will turn out in real life:
And here it is in color block. I really love this color combo 🙂
Notice how the sleeve is curved? I love how it looks like a flower bud.
This dress also looks great on larger women. Here it is on a size 5XL model:

The Lynn dress pattern

Hi guys,
After a long hiatus, I am back! I was so busy with my personal issues that kept coming one after one. I was really impatient because I could not sit in front of my computer and do my favorite activity of drafting patterns.
Today I just finished drafting and simulating the Lynn dress in the September collection. This is the sketch:
I decided that I will make this dress with stretch fabric to make it a friendly project for new sewists. It does not have waist or bust darts, and it hugs the body pretty closely.
Let’s see how it turns out on 3D models. This is it on a size M model:
And this is the Lynn dress on size 5XL model. OK, I must admit that I prefer curvy women and most of the time I think my dresses look better on them 🙂

Free sewing pattern: Celine crop top

Hi there,

I am posting this Celine crop top pattern, just because I was happy making the Anna skirt, and I wanted to have a nice top to finish the outfit with it.

The Celine crop top features a round neckline, princess seam, short sleeves and is quite short. It falls just on the natural waistline. When I simulate the Celine crop top, I have such fun "making" it with different types of fabric and various prints and textures - and they all come out beautiful. Let me show you how it looks...

in embroidered velvet:

in florals:

in green linen:

and in geometrical print mixed with Anna skirt:

How do you think of this? Nice enough for a day out, right?

The pattern is made using layered PDF, please check for your size before printing so you won’t waste your paper. If you still do not know how to print a layered PDF, please check for the instruction here.

Free sewing pattern: Veronica dress

Hi guys,

I guess I should name my patterns, because I just find out that if I just list the features of the garment (like short sleeve, round neck, knee length, etc.), some of them will be really long, or will cause confusion with the same name for different model. So from now on, you will see the pattern with a name, I just name them randomly to my liking.

And the first dress with a name I am sharing today is the Veronica dress.

This dress features a deep V neckline, a gathered front, and a flared skirt. It is simple and easy, and it will make you beautiful I'm sure.

Here is a 3D simulation of the Veronica dress:

And this is how it looks on a size M model.

And this is how it looks on a size XXL model. Still adorable, huh? I really love how the fit and flare form flatters the curves of the wearer, no matter what their body shape is.
The pattern is made using layered PDF, please check for your size before printing so you won’t waste your paper. If you still do not know how to print a layered PDF, please check for the instruction here.
You can print this using your home printer and A4/Letter paper. I calculated the printing area so that you will be able to use either type of paper to print the pattern out perfectly. Do you want to add side seam pockets to the pattern for additional convenience? Just go ahead because it is too easy, just follow the quick instruction here.

Cutting instruction:

This is how you will get if you print all sizes. Messy, huh? Just print what you need, you won't get confused.

The cutting instruction is for the garment with facings. If you choose to sew it with bias binding, skip the front facing and back facing pieces. If you choose to sew with bodice lining, skip the facing pieces and cut a set of front and back pieces in lining fabric.

A. Front - 2pcs

C. Front Skirt - 1pcs
D. Back Skirt - 2pcs
E. Front Facing – 1pcs + Fusible Interfacing – 1pcs
F. Back Facing – 2pcs + Fusible Interfacing – 2pcs

Free sewing pattern: Simple T-shirt

I just realize that most of the patterns I posted on this blog are dress patterns, and only a few patterns for other types of garments. It is because I am a crazy fan of fancy dresses, and I love sewing them (and because I think I look better in this kind of feminine clothing). But yesterday a reader asked me to post patterns for tops, pants and skirts, and I found out I was being too ignorant of reader's need to post mainly dresses.

So today I am sharing a simple pattern for a T-shirt. This is simple enough for those who are new to sewing because it does not have many details - just one front piece, one back piece and two sleeves. For me, I can make such T-shirt in less than an hour.

This T-shirt features a slouchy fit and short sleeves. It is just the type of staple garments that you need to have in your closet. You can make this simple top using jersey fabric, or any kind of soft and a bit stretchy fabric for a comfortable feel. I am thinking of making one with bold tropical print - it will be nice for a holiday by the beach.

This T-shirt is made using European sizing system, so its size range is from size 36 to size 50, you can find your size in this table below:
